India Yamaha organizes Yamaha Safe Riding Science in Bangalore.

Instill safe riding habits among Gen-Y.

Bangalore, April 08, 2010

Continuing its effort to make riding a joy and a pleasurable experience while contributing towards safe riding, India Yamaha Motor today organized its Safe Riding Science initiative in Bangalore.

Attended by 120 students of Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore, the day long program was divided into 2 sessions - 1st was a classroom or theoretical session and 2nd was practical session wherein 3 practical skills were taught - slow balancing, slalom and braking.

The YSRS initiative has been developed by the company in accordance with its basic philosophy of "Safety riding being achieved by intelligent activity, not by the operation or movement". Intelligent activity, in turn, is achieved by imbibing and following traffic safety awareness & values into riding. It has also prepared a short film of 20 minutes duration, in which it has scientifically analyzed impact force, inertia force and frictional force from a road traffic viewpoint.

According to various researches, 13 people die every hour in India due to road accidents, the highest in the world. It comes to about 250 people every day and 1,14,590 each year. Moreover, road fatalities in India have been rising at the rate of 8% per year.

During his recent visit to India, Valentino Rossi, Yamaha’s global brand ambassador and MotoGP World Champion, also stressed the importance of safe riding such as always wearing helmet, anticipating unseen dangers, concentrating hard, riding defensively and with consideration for others.

Yamaha recognizes it’s Corporate Social Responsibility towards the community and YSRS is a step towards inculcating safe riding techniques and raising traffic safety awareness among local communities and help contribute to an accident-free traffic environment. Yamaha launched Yamaha Safe Riding Science (YSRS) initiative in India in 2008, and has successfully introduced it to the youth of Delhi, Nagpur, Goa, Mumbai and Chennai. Overwhelmed by the public response everywhere, Yamaha has now introduced this initiative to the youth of Bangalore and the company hopes that it will go a long way in inculcating safe riding habits among them.
