The monocross suspension was originally developed to improve the running performance of motocross competition bikes. Back in 1973, one of the first Monocross suspensions was used on the Yamaha YZM250 machine that won the World Motocross GP (photo). At the time, it was called the “flying suspension” because of the great stability it provided in the jumps and landings of motocross racing. Now many makers besides Yamaha also use this type of suspension originally conceived by Yamaha.
